| I started out with a decidedly analytic approach to the world, studying molecular biology, then working in Silicon Valley’s high technology ambit. Over the course of many travels and relocations, I developed a strong aesthetic sense, but never made art. But then everything changes and as Robert Motherwell says "Man is his own invention: every artist’s problem is to invent himself." (The Rise of Cubism,1966) |
| Attending the San Francisco Art Institute I was fed a diet of Bischoff, Brown, deFeo, Diebenkorn, Francis, Oliveira, Thiebaud. Took in art history in Paris courtesy of UCB and imbibed the impressionists. Discovered the communities of artists in Marin County. Started looking hard at Abakanowicz, Bourgeois, Dumas, Hesse, Frankenthaler, Motherwell, Rothko. Left California to solve the equation of affordable housing within a community of artists, access to a cosmopolitan environment replete with museums, galleries and opportunities to show. I now live and work in the Hudson Valley. |
